IDC - FMC Convergence Workshop :

2008 will be a pivotal year for FMC. Service providers will enhance their portfolios to provide additional services beyond PBX Extension

FMC is currently being rapidly implemented in Europe and the A/P region, although it will begin to catch on in other regions.

FMC solutions are increasingly being implemented by Equipment vendors using hosted solutions.

FMC is generally marketed as a technical solution, but should be positioned as a competitive business solution. This will have an impact on the success of service by Service providers

End to end customer experience with WiMax

WiMax is a key component of delivering broadband with no boundaries to the end-users. It is an optimal technology for high speed personal mobile broadband for operators without cellular spectrum allocations or who want to have a separate complementary offering from their mobile voice & data business.

The Nokia Siemens Networks WiMAX solution fulfills the emerging need for personal mobile Internet by providing a cost-optimized platform for high-speed Internet access. We provide a complete IEEE 802.16e-2005 WiMAX solution, consisting of end-user devices, network technology and a wide service portfolio to support operators. On the network side, this solution includes a base station which is based upon the Nokia Siemens Networks Flexi Base Station concept, a new ASN gateway product and the required other network elements, routers and servers.

The end-to-end mobile WiMAX solution from Nokia Siemens Networks supports both fixed and mobile broadband applications. It makes extending broadband access and adding mobility to wireless broadband services easier than ever before. Our experience in OSS and services for large networks extends the possibilities. The result? By being truly end-to-end our solution provides the best end to end customer experience enabling broadband with no boundaries.

RDM Workshop Session

The Business Model in the Public Area is changing, because the demand of the subscriber is higher and higher. In the past the content producer was the subscriber, now a days, the subscriber develops demand for content, produced b different companies for music, vides/movies, games and so one. Furthermore the high bandwidth line doesn’t stop at the interconnection point in a building, more and more the residential area needs as well high bandwidth streams. It means that the Business Model for the Public Area includes the core- Access- AND Residential Network. The Services will be separated in 3 different Provider Groups, Network-Provider, Service-Provider and Content-Provider (Producer).

What does the subscriber want? Everybody wants to have high bandwidth at home, a fast connection to the world to use all the today's and tomorrows services easily. Furthermore the consumer wants to download music and movies, to play online games, to learn over the Internet and more. For all this services, it needs high quality Networks, high available services and Content Producers and a teamwork with all the involved industries.

What does it mean for the network? As mentioned before, the network has to guarantee I high quality bandwidth transmission, high availability and security. It means Fiber optic everywhere, but……Fiber optic in a high Quality. To reach this goals it’s important not to think only about the CAPEX Costs and investments, no as well the OPEX and maintenance costs are very important to think about. Finally the planning has to include the Total Cost of Ownership

Sites of the future

  • Reduce material cost  -steel, concrete

  • Share more infrastructure, we more or less end up in the same place – tower co is the only way to go
  • Share Back Haul reduce lease line cost and gain more spectrum efficiencies in MW
  • Set industry guidelines for site rentals – sometimes we are own worse enemy
